Our first project was to team up with somebody we don’t know and take their portrait. Easy enough right? HA! We were to take their portrait with 1 image from a 4×5 large format camera and 4 images from antique Polaroid cameras. This was a challenge. I’m so used to moving fast and taking a ton of photos on a portrait session. This forced us to slow down and actually think about what we wanted to shoot. I was paired with Sue, who I am so grateful to have met. Later our film was processed and we got to print our photos using the Platinotype printmaking process. Our instructor Tom, was incredible. He was just so encouraging and supportive. I don’t have my polaroids with me.. the Rebirth crew is still doing some archiving, but I do have the Platinotype to show you.
This project took place in a little town called Sumner. After we did our portraits, we walked around a bit and took pictures. Of course, I made friends with a super cute and friendly chocolate Lab. And then.. went looking for birds.
Here are some photos of where it all took place, my home in Mississippi… The Shack Up Inn. I love this place. It has such a cool vibe about it and although you are sleeping in a shack, it is really nice and comfortable.
